The Revival is on its way!

Hello everyone! TGLR has had a busy past few days setting up a few more necessary details before the official launch.  I'm happy to say that 4 more artists have agreed to design stationary for TGLR. With any luck, the first batch of custom local artist stationary should be sent out by mid January.  As for the first mailing of Revival Kits--look for them to grace your mailbox in early January. So, if you haven't emailed your mailing address to thegreatletterrevival@gmail.com to request yours, yet--don't delay!

The Great Letter Revival is now on facebook--please be sure to like us for updates and information. TGLR has already received a wonderful response--thank you, facebook community, for your support!

Also, excited to be shooting for the first TGLR video prompt this Friday with a few good friends of mine. I can't wait to have the finished product to show you all!

TGLR could use a little help spreading the word about our launch. Please share our link with others or post this promo on your facebook or twitter for others to see. Thanks for your support! Till next time, have a safe and happy New Year!

A Spark

So it begins. I took the plunge and spread the word about TGLR onto facebook today--and wow, guys! 101 page views within the past few hours! Thank you so much for your interest and support. I have some amazing friends who have rallied behind me in this effort and who have helped me keep this idea afloat.

Some good news for today: I have reached out among friends and family and have received the feedback I was looking for. So far, I have three artists who have agreed to help me out with unique TGLR stationary designs. Each of these ladies are extremely talented and creative. I'm looking forward to what they come up with. These designs along with my own will be part of a stationary "Revival Kit" that I'll be mailing out come January. If you want to receive a free Revival Kit, make sure to email me your mailing address! I am still looking for more willing artists and participants. So, if you think you or someone you know might be interested in designing stationary or a letterhead for TGLR, please contact me.

As for all of the letter writers, out there waiting in the wings, the brainstorm continues for the letter prompt challenges that you will soon be asked to participate in. This is going to be fun, guys. Stick with me! :)

Construction, Doubt and Forging Ahead

Been busy today! I've begun my haphazard construction of the beast that will be TGLR and demolished several pages of my notebook with ideas for the project. Also, trying to maintain the hope that people might still be interested in something as "archaic" as letter writing. Doubts aside, I am going to forge on with this idea and see it through, because I see it's potential in the smile inducing department. And the world needs more of that. :)
So, among my accomplishments today:
1. TGLR has an email: thegreatletterrevival@gmail.com    Feel free to blast the heck out of it with your thoughts, comments and ideas.
2. TGLR has a twitter account as of today. Yes, it is ugly and under-designed with stock images taken from Google--haha. But, it will have to do for now. Follow @TGL_Revival  for updates and such.
3. Purchased a wee P.O. Box for TGLR and will be picking up the keys for it on Monday. w00t! (((exciting)))
4. Made a video update for you all to gaze upon here:

Oh! And most importantly! If I have enticed you at all and you are interested in being a part of this movement, please email your addresses to thegreatletterrevival@gmail.com.
Your address will only be used for TGLR mailings, updates and info. *pinky swear*

That's all for today. In the meantime, start sharpening those pencils, readying those pens and dusting off your stationary sets. The Revival is coming--get ready!

The Great Letter Revival

Welcome to TGLR. My Dad is partially responsible for this, I should tell you. Or rather, my Dad's collection of well preserved letters from his younger years in the 60's. This idea wouldn't have been born had I not leafed through those letters from times bygone, reading the script that represented the voices of another era.
This page probably wouldn't exist either, if I hadn't enjoyed the pleasures of receiving Red Vine licorice and a rock collection from my pen pal when I was nine. (How that bulging letter-sized envelope even made it through the sorting room is beyond me. :) ) I could also blame my friend, Amaris, who for several months faithfully penned multi-paged letters to me while studying medicine in Romania. And then, there is also my late husband who contributed to this love affair with letters with his romantic notes sent to me from England.

I've been fortunate to not be so young as to miss out on the joys of a full mailbox. Yet, I am young enough to witness the decline of letter writing to the rise of online social networking and cell phone texting. It makes me sad to realize that the generations after me will not or have not experienced what it feels like to read a hand written letter. It is truly a dying art. But!---it doesn't have to be.

Join me as I apply the defibrillator to the weakened letter. Help me bring about The Great Letter Revival!
In a world that moves so quickly that it loses touch with the things that matter most, help me to slow things down enough to reconnect to those that are important to us in life and to establish stronger connections through tangible, meaningful ways of communication.

Please keep in touch as details of this project develop to see how you can be a part of and/or contribute to the letter writing movement.

Long live the letter!

Cathy
